Faces and weather, held still long enough to look.
Mara Voss makes black-and-white portraits and street work on 35mm and medium format — no digital touch-ups, no reshoots. What the negative holds is what you get.
The contact sheet, unedited.
Frame numbers run in shooting order — nothing here has been cropped from the original negative.
Eleven years, one roll at a time.
Mara started shooting on a borrowed Pentax K1000 and never quite moved off film. Her portraits favor available light and long, unhurried sittings — the kind where the interesting frame usually comes after the posed one. Recent work has taken her through Lisbon, Porto, Marseille, and a long stretch documenting harbor towns along the Atlantic coast.
Every finished print is scanned from the original negative; nothing is composited or generated. Clients receive a contact sheet before final selects, the same way it's always been done.
Portraits, editorial, and documentary work.
